External Sharing

If your organization performs tasks which involves sharing documents or collaborating directly with clients, vendors or customers, then it’s high time that you move to the external sharing features of SharePoint Online for sharing content with people outside your organization who do not have licenses for your Microsoft Office 365 subscription or Office 365 Licenses.

What are the External Sharing Features of SharePoint?
  • The ability to turn external sharing on or off globally for your entire SharePoint Online environment (or tenant). Turning external sharing off at the SharePoint environment level means no documents, sites, or site collections can be shared externally.
  • The ability to turn external sharing on or off for individual site collections. This provides you with the ability to secure content on specific site collections which you do not want to be shared.
  • The ability to share sites and documents with authenticated users. Authenticated users are those who are invited to sign in using their company email IDs.
  • The ability to share documents with guest users. Guest users, also called anonymous users, don’t need a Microsoft account to access documents. They access the document via invite link that you or your employees give to them.
  • No more Office 365 or Microsoft Emails required. The external users need not worry about having an Office 365 or Microsoft Account to gain access.
